In love with the ‘Ayan Rug’ hand woven by women weavers trained by Obeetee. The patterns you see are an expression of the nature that surrounds these women, soothing & evocative, the colors so calming. I love the choices in design, color and expression that Obeetee offers, choosing just one of so many, quite tough!
To their credit, Obeetee trains women weavers to get them equal opportunities in this timeless craft. I’ve spent most of my summer months as a kid in Banaras & Bhadohi lost in the gentle rhythmic chants of carpet weavers at work. Then it was mostly men at work, which is why what the brand does is special. Any support to the cause helps sustaining the livelihood of the weaver community in these remote villages on North India, especially in times as difficult as these during this Covid19 pandemic.
What is also quite commendable is that Obeetee has come up with an auction to raise funds to provide essentials and a continuity to craft for their weavers and craftsmen. I absolutely love the approach that keeps sustainability in mind together with empowerment. It’s not an easy balance but not impossible as Obeetee is proving!
